Bristol city region to become showcase for sustainability

Bristol has been chosen to drive forward a new sustainability project with sustainable development charity Forum for the Future.

Launched at Bristol Zoo Gardens on 14 March 2008, the Sustainable Bristol City Region Programme is a 10-year plan bringing together leaders from the public, private and NGO sectors to develop and implement solutions to the challenges posed by the growth in urban living.

The programme will encompass issues such as transport, housing, local food sourcing, waste and education and hopes to reach over one million employees, students and voters in the Bristol area.

Organisations supporting the project include Arup, the University of Bath, Bristol City Council, the University of Bristol, Business Wales, the Centre for Sustainable Energy, the Environment Agency, Hewlett Packard, the Soil Association, the South West Regional Development Agency, Sustrans, the University of the West of England, JT Group, Wessex Water and the West of England Partnership.
