The regeneration of the Harbourside has been driven by the Bristol Harbourside Sponsors’ Group, a partnership of interested parties established in 1992 to create and implement a vision for the future of the area. The Group’s remit is to jointly promote the development of a 55-acre Harbourside project area according to the principles enshrined in a Harbourside Accord.
Originally comprising major landowners and tenants such as British Gas, British Railways, Lloyds TSB, Bristol City Council and JT Group, the Group now also includes the South West of England Regional Development Agency, Beaufort Homes and Crest Nicholson, as well as the SS Great Britain Trust, the Watershed Media Centre and Aardman Animations.
By pooling their interests, the Group’s members have successfully bid for Millennium and National Lottery funding, increased office accommodation and other employment opportunities and attracted quality residential space and leisure facilities.
